Thank you for faving my "dead villain" caricature, I'm glad you like it. 
I very much do! I was only talking to my DnD group about how I hate to kill off NPCs before I saw it, so it really struck a nerve
When I used to be a DM, at level 4 I always made portraits for the characters in my group. It attached the players to the characters more and they didn't gave up easily on the characters despite some really hard situations.
